The OCAL Electronic Collimator 4.0 is a reliable tool for collimating Newtonian, Ritchey-Chrétien (RC), and Schmidt-Cassegrain (SCT) telescopes with precision and ease. The 4.0 is a redesigned and upgraded version of the 3.0MAX. The previous model was praised for its accuracy and stability, thanks to its advanced 3A processing and precision assembly. However, its large size and heavy weight made it extremely prone to a decrease in accuracy if it were bumped or dropped during daily use, and its higher cost made it less accessible for some telescope users.
To solve these issues, OCAL spent two years developing the 4.0. It features a slightly smaller aperture than the 3.0MAX but delivers improved performance, greater stability, and better overall value.
Here’s what’s new and improved in the 4.0 model:
Image Quality Innovation: Equipped with a higher-resolution sensor and advanced CMOS technology, it delivers clearer, more detailed images than the 3.0MAX. It captures fine details with greater accuracy, making collimation more precise and visually refined.
Display Optimization: Adopting a 4:3 screen-to-body ratio design, compared with the 16:9 ratio of the 3.0MAX, it can more efficiently display the internal structure of the other side of the telescope. This design allows for more intuitive viewing angles and easier alignment during collimation.
Improved Stability: The 4.0 maintains the 3A process and high-precision assembly technology of the 3.0MAX, while reducing the device’s size and weight. These changes result in better stability during everyday use. It’s less affected by minor bumps or movement, helping preserve consistent calibration accuracy.
Refined Appearance: The 4.0 features a new red shell with clearly marked reference circles, making it easier to identify the reflective surface of the calibrator. These improvements make operation more convenient and efficient.
