If you want to install a guide telescope in parallel to the main one, guide rings offer the simplest and cheapest solution to make this. The Guide rings PLUS 115mm offer a high build quality and all the features useful for this application, allowing you to install guide telescopes such as 80mm diameter refractors.
Like all the other elements of the PLUS series, these guide rings are made with high mechanical precision (built with CNC machines from aluminum block) and specially designed to enable you to easily install other mechanical elements such as support rings, plates or dovetail clamps.
The guide rings PLUS 115mm are part of PrimeLuceLab's system PLUS (Prima Luce Universal System) which includes many guide rings, support rings, plates and dovetail clamps to offer you the maximum freedom to build your mechanical system of support, depending on the application that you want to achieve. Indeed, all the PLUS elements have threaded holes, holes and slots suitable for connecting elements, always with maximum rigidity and comfort.
For this application, PrimaLuceLab designed many elements, including the guide rings PLUS 115mm. Each component of the PLUS system is made of aluminum blocks that are high precision CNC machined. The aluminum is then sandblasted to achieve a very smooth surface finish and is anodized (hard anodizing) to increase the hardness of the material and protect it from oxidation.
Thanks to the particular design, the guide rings PLUS 115mm can be:
- screwed (with 2 screws each) directly on all the PLUS compatible support rings or with a single screw on support rings from other brands (which have a center hole).
- screwed (with 2 screws each) on the PLUS dovetail clamps: if you install a Vixen or Losmandy PLUS plate above the support rings of your telescope, you can slide the guide rings in the perfect position to properly balance the weight of the guide telescope.
If you have other brands mechanical accessories, you can still use all the elements of the PLUS system. Indeed PrimaLuceLab has provided a series of central slots that allow, for example, to fix on these guide rings on plates or support rings through a screw.
How to use PLUS support rings with PLUS dovetail bars, guide rings and EAGLE
PLUS support rings are available in different diameters in order to fit different telescopes. All of them are provided with holes and threaded holes for M6 screws in order to let you easily connect to all the other PLUS elements like dovetail bars, guide rings and EAGLE control units. In fact we specifically designed the PLUS system to allow you connect all the elements with at least 2 screws and avoid flexures. In order to connect PLUS support rings to PLUS Vixen-style dovetail bars, you can use 2 M6x12 screws, inserting every screw from the internal part of the ring and screwing it into the corresponding M6 thread in the Vixen-style dovetail bar. This way the M6 screw head will be inside the ring and it won’t touch the telescope tube.
How to use PLUS support rings with PLUS dovetail bars, guide rings and EAGLE: connecting PLUS support rings to Vixen-style dovetail bar
Instead, if you have a PLUS Losmandy-style dovetail bar, you can use 2 M6x12 screws for every support ring, inserting the screw from the bottom side of the bar in the corresponding passing holes. This way the M6 screw head will be inside the dovetail bar and it won’t touch the mount head when you will connect the dovetail bar to the clamp.
How to use PLUS support rings with PLUS dovetail bars, guide rings and EAGLE: connecting PLUS support rings to Losmandy-style dovetail bar
If you want to have a guide telescope in parallel to the main telescope, you can install the PLUS guide rings (that are available in 80mm and 115mm diameters) above the PLUS guide rings. In order to do this, you can use 2 M6x8 screws for every guide ring and insert every screw from the internal part of the support ring.
How to use PLUS support rings with PLUS dovetail bars, guide rings and EAGLE: connecting PLUS guide rings to PLUS support rings
PLUS support rings are designed also to let you connect the EAGLE directly on top of them. This way, together with the dovetail bar installed below the PLUS support ring, you create a cage around your telescope and avoid any flexure. In order to connect the EAGLE to the PLUS support ring, you can use 2 M6x10 screw for every ring, inserting every screw from the internal part of the ring. Just note that, in order to connect EAGLE to PLUS support rings, avoid to use too long screws that may touch the internal electronics of the EAGLE. Threaded part of the screw that exits from the support ring has to be no longer than 6mm.
